Lift Truck Tank Safety
Among the most popular types of lift trucks available is a propane-powered model. The propane is utilized to fuel these machines and it has several properties that have to be considered when working with the fuel tank. It is very essential that Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is worn at all times so as to be safe.

Personal Protective Equipment or PPE
Propane gas is very cold. So cold in fact that exposure to your skin could cause serious burns to happen. Whenever you are re-fueling or exchanging the propane tank, be sure to put on a full face shield or goggles and thick gloves. PPE or Personal Protective Equipment is a requirement to be used on location in order to keep the operator as safe as possible. Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is a standard workplace requirement for the majority of companies using this equipment and if the operator does not have the correct things on, like for example a hardhat, safety goggles, steel-toe boots etc. than he or she may be banned from operating the machinery.

Inspect the Valve
If you are in the process of exchanging the tank, be sure that the valve on the new tank is definitely turned off before connecting the fuel line. This is extremely important because when you are inserting the fuel line into an open valve, you would release the propane gas. This situation could create a potentially hazardous condition.

Fire Extinguisher
Having a fire extinguisher available during the time the tank is being changed out or when re-fueling is occurring is one more essential safety measure to have implemented. The majority of businesses have fire extinguishers located near the refueling station. It is better to have one close and not require it, than to need one and not have one nearby. The majority of safety regulations require this is set up on location as well.

Secure the Tank
Most propane tanks have either a strap or a restraining device to secure the tank to the machinery. Be certain that this device is functioning properly and correctly used so that you could prevent the tank from falling or shifting, because this can also result in a hazardous condition.
