A type of device in the material handling business that can be used to lift and move loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Each and every part of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts can be used to move the load vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lower and lift the load. There are various kinds of masts for lifting loads to various heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated in the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the back of the truck.
Cab
Positioned within the middle of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located within the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift parts is the frame of the truck. This consists of the counterweights situated at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
